Saint Christina | | Saint Christina was born to idol worshipping parents in the city of Tyre. | | When Christina turned eleven years old, her father hid her in a high tower to keep her safe until she was old enough to marry. He put idols in her room for her to worship. | | The wise girl, however, saw the power and majesty of the One True God in the sun, the stars and the moon as she looked out her window. The beauty of creation led her to love the Creator of the universe, the Lord Jesus Christ. Seeing Christina's desire for the Truth, God sent His angel to bless her with the sign of the Cross and divine knowledge. When Christina then smashed the idols in her room, her father ordered her to be tortured. | | Saint Christina lived and died during the third century. | | The name "Christina" means "follower of Christ." It is a mystery as to why her parents gave her this name. | | We honor this Holy Virgin Martyr on July 24. | | Holy Virgin Christina, open our eyes and our hearts to see the wisdom and love of God in the beauty of His creation. Amen. |
