Saint Anthusa

Saint Anthusa lived most of her life as a hermitess, alone in simplicity and prayer.
After many years of self-denial, she establish a women's monastery near Constantinople.  The emperor had her arrested and tortured because she venerated icons.  At last the empress became her friend and had her released from prison.
The dignified and splendid Anthusa died in 759 A.D.
We honor this Holy Virgin on July 27.
Holy Virgin Anthusa, pray that our love for Christ would become greater than our love for ourselves.  Amen.
