Saint Anastasia grew up in a women's monastery near Rome. She had moved there after her parents died when she was three years old.
Gerontissa Sophia was an excellent nun and raised the girl in the ascetic life. When she was twenty, the pagan governor sent his soldiers to bring this beautiful Christian to him. The wise Sophia encouraged Anastasia before she left, but the Saint said, "My heart is ready to suffer for Christ; my soul is ready to die for my Sweet Jesus."
Saint Anastasia was martyred in 256 A.D.
The ancient Greek name "Anastasia" means "resurrection."
We honor this Holy Virgin Martyr on October 29.
Holy Virgin Martyr Anastasia, pray that we too may have the power to deny our own desires and be ready to die for our Sweet Jesus. Amen.
