Saint Febronia lived during the reign of the Emperor Diocletian.
She grew up in a convent in Assyria, where her aunt was the abbess. Well-respected by the other sisters, Febronia was known for her humility, wisdom and beauty.
When the Emperor’s men came to a town near the monastery to kill the Christians in the area, they heard about Febronia. The leader, Selinus, demanded that the holy virgin be brought to him. Febronia refused his demands. She stood firm in her choice of the Lord Jesus Christ over any mortal man.
Saint Febronia was tortured severely and finally killed. On the same day, her killer died a horrible death.
Silenus’ nephew, Lysimachus, had been a secret Christian. However, when we had witnessed the faith of Febronia, he became bold as well. He arranged for her body to be buried with honor at the convent. Then, he and many other soldiers with him were baptized.
Saint Febronia died for her Heavenly Bridegroom in 310 A.D.
We honor this Holy Virgin Martyr on June 25.
